Privacy Policy

Last updated: 6 April 2026

1. Who we are

Dorris is a home safety service designed to help families support their loved ones' independence with dignity and discretion. For the purposes of data protection legislation, the data controller is Dorris Ltd (company registration number to be confirmed), with its registered office at [address to be confirmed].

If you have any questions about how we handle your data, you can contact us at hello@dorris.co.uk or by using the details at the bottom of this policy.

2. What information we collect

2.1 Website visitors

When you visit our website or get in touch with us, we may collect:

  • Your name, email address, and phone number (if you fill in our contact form)
  • Information about your enquiry, including any details you choose to share about your situation
  • Technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited (via cookies, with your consent)
  • Your cookie preferences

2.2 Service users

If you or your family member uses the Dorris service, we may collect:

  • Account and contact information for the household and nominated family members
  • Sensor data from the Dorris system (motion patterns, environmental readings, device status)
  • Routine patterns derived from sensor data (used to detect changes, not to monitor specific activities)
  • Alert data, including notification history and any actions taken
  • Technical data about the system's operation and connectivity

We do not use cameras or microphones. We do not record, listen to, or observe what anyone is doing. Our system detects patterns of activity, not specific behaviours.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your enquiries and provide information about Dorris
  • Set up and operate the Dorris service for your household
  • Detect meaningful changes in routine and send appropriate alerts to nominated family members
  • Maintain and improve the reliability and performance of our systems
  • Understand how visitors use our website so we can improve it (with your consent)
  • Comply with our legal obligations

We will never sell your personal data. We will never use sensor data for advertising or profiling beyond the core purpose of the Dorris service.

4. Legal basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases to process your personal data:

  • Consent: For placing non-essential cookies and sending you marketing communications. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Contract: For processing data necessary to provide the Dorris service to you, as set out in our service agreement.
  • Legitimate interests: For improving our website and services, and for handling enquiries. We balance our interests against your rights and will not process data where the impact on you outweighs our reasons for doing so.
  • Legal obligation: Where we are required by law to process or retain certain data.

5. How we store your data

We take the security of your data seriously. All data is:

  • Stored on servers located in the United Kingdom
  • Encrypted both in transit (using TLS) and at rest
  • Accessible only to authorised personnel who need it to provide or support the service
  • Protected by appropriate technical and organisational measures

We retain your data only for as long as we need it. Specific retention periods are as follows:

  • Contact form enquiries: Retained for up to 12 months after your last interaction, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
  • Service data (sensor and alert data): Retention periods to be confirmed — our intention is to retain only what is necessary and to give you control over your data.
  • Account data: Retained for the duration of your service agreement and for a reasonable period afterwards, in line with legal requirements.

6. Your rights under UK GDPR

You have a number of rights in relation to your personal data. You have the right to:

  • Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — Ask us to correct any information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Erasure — Ask us to delete your personal data, in certain circumstances.
  • Data portability — Request that we transfer your data to another organisation, or directly to you, in a commonly used format.
  • Objection — Object to our processing of your personal data where we rely on legitimate interests.
  • Restriction — Ask us to restrict the processing of your data in certain circumstances.
  • Withdraw consent — Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@dorris.co.uk. We will respond within one month.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). You can contact the ICO at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.

7. Cookies

Our website uses cookies to provide essential functionality and, with your consent, to understand how visitors use the site. For full details, please see our Cookie Policy.

8. Third parties

We may share data with carefully selected third parties in order to operate our service. These may include:

  • Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers (UK-based or with appropriate safeguards)
  • Analytics services (only with your consent, and in anonymised or aggregated form where possible)
  • Payment processors (if applicable, for service subscriptions)
  • Professional advisers such as lawyers and accountants, where necessary

We require all third parties to respect the security of your data and to treat it in accordance with the law. We do not allow third parties to use your personal data for their own purposes.

A full list of third-party processors will be maintained and made available upon request once finalised.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Where changes are significant, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you — for example, by email or by placing a notice on our website.
